This website provides information to stakeholders on how social and environmental safeguards are being addressed and respected throughout the implementation of the National REDD+ Strategy in Liberia, ensuring that no harm is done and that benefits are delivered to people and the environment.
Liberia is participating with other countries in a global initiative to address climate change and has developed a national strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+).
The United Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) has identified four essential elements that countries implementing REDD+ activities must have in place to receive result-based finance. One of these elements is a safeguards information system (SIS). The SIS is a system for providing information on how the UNFCCC REDD+ ‘Cancun’ safeguards are being addressed and respected throughout the implementation of the national REDD+ Strategy.
